About Michelle Lasley, Balance Shared

Balance Shared is simply the idea that we are all better together. When I first moved to Oregon in 2003, I was cleaning up a farm-to-table dinner (on the farm), and one of the cousins (originally from Wisconsin) said, “Well, many hands make light work.” While women generally partake in kinkeeping and often exemplify the many hands that make light work in domestic tasks and chores, we can see it in other places. Think of an Amish barn raising. Later, while studying sustainability, we discussed the concept of better together while reading Better Together. Shortly after that, the two worlds - life and school - collided, and it’s clear to me that we must do things together to better our world. It’s not good enough that I think our world must be rooted in stewardship and sustainability. Enough of us have to believe this and act on it, or we will continue down the road of late-stage capitalism and environmental ruin.

This is a space where I talk about those things in the vain hope that we will embrace better together and actively make a change in our world.
